in the news this morning

I was reading the news this morning and stumbled upon this little tidbit:

"...It may be the oddest tale to emerge from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Armed dolphins, trained by the US military to shoot terrorists and pinpoint spies underwater, may be missing in the Gulf of Mexico.
Experts who have studied the US navy's cetacean training exercises claim the 36 mammals could be carrying 'toxic dart' guns. Divers and surfers risk attack, they claim, from a species considered to be among the planet's smartest. The US navy admits it has been training dolphins for military purposes, but has refused to confirm that any are missing."

It goes on to say that the US navy won't confirm anything, but a scientist working on the project is worried. My advice - don't go SCUBA diving in the Gulf for a while. (And this is another interesting bit of news that goes with this - a good friend and fellow writer works for the dive and rescue in association with FEMA. He was supposed to go to the coast, was called the day after the hurricane Katrina, and then, mysteriously, his mission was cancelled. Was it because sending SCUBA divers in would be dangerous because of the dolphins?

My husband heard this on the radio and I told him it must be one of those urban legends. I mean, how truly weird! But who knows? And if it’s true, it sounds like they did a half-assed job of training those dolphins. Sheesh!

What next! I happen to love dolphins. They have long been considered symbols of 'good luck'. How dare they 'train' them as killers!!! (If this is true, it's another big thumbs down for US military policies.)

I've heard from one person that it's a bogus story, but I found it too interesting to ignore.
Besides, how can you know what's true and what's not nowadays?
It's a matter of viewpoint.
Since most of my family is in the army, and I hear stories, I can honestly say that Personally, I think the US army is stupid enough to do lose several deadly dolphins.

Thanks Chey!
It's an old one from my modelling days -
My hair was short and curly! Now it's long and straight.
